I spy Brasilia....

I have been wanting some Broyhill Brasilia furniture for my bedroom for a while now, but haven't wanted to pay the big "E" prices.  So I was super excited when I saw some in photos of an upcoming estate sale. (and by up and coming, I mean tomorrow!).  Thankfully my boss (she is awesome) gave me the morning off so I can attend, but that leads to the question "How early do you get there?"  I want to make sure that I'm the first one through the door so I can snatch it all up, but I have almost never been to a sale on the first day. I have read lots of estate sale madness stories and I'm hoping to try avoid that as much as possible.  Get in grab and get out.  Although I do have this vision in my head of snatching a tag and flipping over the bed ninja style to grab the others....but that is just a passing daydream....I think!?!

I'm truly willing to get up at Dark:30 and sit on a door step, but only if necessary.  I even kinda want to do a quick peek in the windows to see which room my stuff is in so I know where to go....quickly.  Is this rude behavior?  Any suggestions?  How early would you get there?  What is the earliest you have showed up for a sale? The sale starts at 11am tomorrow.

Ciao

  1. I showed up at an estate sale at 5:00AM, for a sale that started at 10:00AM, so I could get a Brasilia china cabinet and 4 brasilia dinning room chairs. It was three hours before I saw another person for the sale.

  2. Bopfish, I hope you brought an ipod or something! :) Thanks for sharing. I was thinking around 7:30, but the thought of someone else getting the goods might make it earlier. I wish I knew what the prices are like. I might not be able to afford all of it :(

  3. I got ya beat Bopfish. 10:30 pm the Night Before the sale...in the middle of winter. Comes down to how bad you want it. To be safe, I'd say at least 3 hours early. Go ahead and check the windows after you've got your number if they give out numbers. Checking windows before the sellers arrive my get the police called on you. I'd stay in my car until the second buyer arrives and then jump out and take your prized spot quickly. If there are two night stands, get them both. Most other pieces are easier to find. Take a friend, if you have a suitably nutso one, to help grab tags. Look at the pics in the ad carefully to figure out the layout of the house as best you can. Note the color of the walls / carpet to help you find your treasure. Take your camera!

  4. Looked at the pics on line. What a CRAZY modified headboard! I would have never thought of doing that to turn a queen into a king! I'd forget that and go for the nightstand and two dressers. Remember, the Brasilia Connection is based in Florida these days (I think). You might be going up against pros.

That blanket chest is cool too and it looks like there might be a neat desk next to it. Man, I hope you gots some cash to spend!

  5. Isn't that headboard nuts! I'm not sure if I like it yet. Yeah Brasilia Connection is about an hour away...I want the blank chest too. I have never seen one with two lidded sections before. It would be perfect for our bedroom! I think at bare minimum I want the two nightstands and the cedar chest. Thanks for the tips!

  7. If you get there and find the prices too high and the pieces don't get snatched up right away, don't forget to leave a bid of at least a little more than half of the original asking price. You may get a call later!

  8. Well? What happened?! What did you get? Did you see the sale down there next week? There's some sort of Pearsall chair and other good stuff. I don't know if that makes lucky, or unlucky!
