The Best Weekend Ever.....

The weekend before last was “The Best Weekend Ever”……at least that is what it would be called if I had a reality TV show!  The beauty of it was that half of it wasn’t planned, it just happened.
DESTINATION:  Atlanta for an Andrew Bird concert.
Once we got to the hotel, we realized that there was a lower level Trader Vic’s dining room.  Sweet!  Since we didn’t have reservation we walked down and they were able to fit us in.  The place was unbelievable in all its tiki glory.

The food was yummy, but the drinks….they were delicious!  Mr. Honey and I shared a tiki punch bowl for two and for our second drink, he had a planters punch (so good) and I a Pimm’s cup (which I think is now my new favorite drink).    After dinner we hoofed it to the Tabernacle for the show. (Word to the wise, the drinks are strong so…. food + beverages + walking a mile with hills, not the smartest combo, but we survived.)  ::::Sigh:::::  Andrew Bird, need I say more.  The show was AMAZING!
Since it was only a weekend trip, we were heading home the next day.  But before we left, we wanted to have brunch at a place called “The Porter".

“The Porter” is the best beer bar in Atlanta, which coincidentally also makes a phenomenal brunch.  They have the BEST biscuits I have ever tasted; seriously when we left we got a batch of road biscuits, which is like a road beer but legal.  As we were walking to the car, Mr. Honey pointed out this sign:

FREE MuteMath show!!!  Waaaa!?!…..they are easily in my top ten band list. I couldn’t believe my eyes, at this point I was jumping up and down with excitement!  I checked the time, 11:30, ok we easily had time to hit the local antique store and come back.  So full speed ahead to Kudzu Antiques for a quick walk through!  Now if you are ever in Atlanta you have to visit this place.  There was so much eye candy; it was hard to get in and out quickly.  I did snap a few pictures…I’m in lust with this Heywood Wakefield bar set…

Back to little five points for the free show at Criminal Records!

I made it back with about twenty minutes to spare.  I purchased their new album in a vinyl (for me) and CD (for my best friend, who was green with jealousy).  This is truly the best way to see one of your favorite bands; I think there were probably 50 people there.  The mini show was a promotion for their concert that night at the Tabernacle (wish I had known, I would have gone for back to back shows).  It was AMAZING!  Here is video of the whole thing; there is a cover of Alicia Keys “Falling” which is spectacular.

After the show I got to meet them, have my picture taken with them and my albums signed.  YESSSS!  They were so nice…and I sounded like a complete idiot….being all nervous and stuff.  Totally Geeked out.

Ugh so awesome!  Can I have another weekend like that?  How about next week karma....

  1. Sounds like so much fun! You had me at Trader Vic's...:) My dad loved Trader Vic's, and he would take my husband and me there often when we were broke newlyweds.

  3. Thanks Beccalina for a great video link ! I have never heard of Mutemath but what a great sound they have, very reminiscent of the blues style that a lot of the good bands from the 60’s used but with a distinctive sound of their own. The keyboards and drums remind me very much of the Doors.

    1. No problem, I'm a music pusher. They are a great band that has flown under the radar at times. Sadly. I will never forget the first time I saw them and the lead came out with a Keytar....a KEYTAR!!..how awesome is that!?!. I can definately hear the blues feel in this set.
