The 400 mile 4 pack of beer

This past weekend was a testament to how much I love my honey.   I didn’t know what I was getting into when we had this conversation:
“Can we go to Tampa for Hunahpu day?”  - Mr. Honey
“Sure, what is Hunahpu Day?”  -Me
“There is a beer made by Cigar City Brewing called Hunahpu which is only release once a year in limited quantities, hence Hunahpu Day.   There is a limit of 3 bottles a person and if you come I can buy 6” – Mr. Honey
“Okay” -Me
I should have clued in to the madness when the limit was drop from 3 bottles a person to 2 bottles, a week or so before the event.  The brewery opened at 11am, but of course like a much anticipated estate sale you come early.  Mr. Honey wanted to get there by 7am, which put us leaving the house at 3:30am.  We packed the car the night before with our folding camping chairs and a cooler full of local beer (supposedly you also trade beer at these things).  I thought he was a little weird to bring the cooler, but once we got there I saw that lots of people had them.  Since I slept in the car, I was refreshed for a day of waiting...lots of waiting....

Our place in line at 7am

At 7am there were about 45 people in front of us, which shocked me a little but that’s cool.  We set up our chairs and settled in, Honey starts talking beer (yes beer is another language) with the guys in front of us and they traded some, about 9am someone comes around with arm bands.  One showing you’re 21 and another that allows you to purchase your 2 bottles of Hunahpu which they will start selling at 3:30PM. (That’s right 3:30 in the afternoon.  OUCH).
My two armbands!
By this time the line behind us is insanely long, one of the guys next to us walked down to film it and it took him over 5 minutes to get to the end of the line.  It just kept going and going.  I truly had NO idea there was going to be that many people but I was super glad we left early; I heard later they ran out of arm bands roughly half way through the line so some people left Hunahpu-less.
Behind us!

Thankfully CCB (Cigar City Brewing) had planned well for the crowds.  There was a music stage, food vendor trucks, and LOTS of beer on tap at various stations.  The only downer was that the lines for beer were super long, so some of the special beers were gone before you got up to front.  Since I’m not a big beer drinker, me and Mr. Honey split up to double team the lines.
Here is a list of the beers on tap…although I know there were a few special specials that weren’t on the list….

There is one beer on here by CCB I wish I had tried called "Those Candies your Granny Loves"...what an awesome name for a beer!!!....the name alone makes me think it tastes like Werthers Originals.

Anyways.....after a long hot day (I have the sunburn to prove it), a 400 mile round trip, and only an eight and a half hour wait with roughly 5000 other people, we walked away with our Eighty dollar 4 pack of beer.

The End.

MAIL CALL!!!

I love this sight when I come home after a long day at the office....

Ohhhh a present for me!  Okay, so I bought them myself....I'm good with it.  Let's see what these hold:

Seagull Pins

YAY!  I love these little guys.  They are made by a company called Buch & Deichmann of Denmark which started in the early 70s.  They made various accessories, like hair barrette, combs, bracelets and brooches.  This is my favorite design by them and as you can see below they came in a variety of colors.

I didn't realize I had so many!  Wouldn't a few of these look smashing grouped on a sweater.

And the last package is......

A super bright Kay Denning bracelet to add to my collection.  Sweet! I was very excited when I saw this baby on the big "E".  I've never seen a color combo like this one, I almost need sunglasses to look at it, it is so bright.  If you think this is cool, you should check out my whole collection.  I took some time this past weekend to photography most of it and create a tab for it, My Denning Addiction at the top of the page.  Enjoy!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Mid Century Drink - None but the Brave

Okay...so it isn't Friday, but this week has been rough.  So....do you know what that calls for....a cocktail!  This is one that I have been drinking for a little while, but have yet to post about, called "None but the Brave".   I found this recipe after searching for ways to use a bottle of Allspice Dram I purchased on a whim.(A good whim, it is delicious!)  So here we go.....

The "Goods"

RECIPE: 1.5oz. Brandy, .5oz Allspice Dram, .5oz Lemon Juice, .5oz Rum, .25 tsp sugar;   Shake over ice and strain into cocktail glass.

Alright! A measure, shake and pour drink....so easy.   Here is the finished product:

My first time using our new dancing pink elephant glasses

Look I even have pink elephant ice cubes, hey I'm all about the matching.

VERDICT:  Oh so good.  Even after making this for a while, I still play with the ratios a little.  Next time I'm thinking, put in some of those homemade bitters we made.  Yum!

Tales from the Veggie Bin: What is that!?!

So this past week in our local veggie bin we received some of this, and my first thought was "WHAT is that!"

This my friends is a Romanesco Cauliflower.  Kinda crazy looking, right.  This is what veggies would look like if the Mad Hatter had a vegetable garden.  Gotta do a close up!

I wasn't totally sure what to do with it, so I just roasted it.

Weird looking but very tasty! Nom Nom Nom....

First Thrift Score of 2012

My first score of the year are these awesome chairs by Selig Monroe. I haven't bought any new furniture pieces is a while, mainly due to not having space. But, when I turned the corner at the thrift store the other week and saw these babies sitting there, my heart started beating faster. I chanted to myself, 'Please please please let them still have the tags on them'....and they DID!  YAY!

The second thought was "Oh Crap, Mr. Honey is going to be PISSED if I come home with these....."  Cause well I sort of agreed to not buy any new furniture without talking to him.....but...but...these chairs are awesome....and and... my phone is broken (having dropped it that morning and it broke into pieces.)...and he was out of town.  What to do...what to do....after fretting over it for about thirty minutes I buy them.  Well I really buy one and the ottoman, my sister-in-law who was shopping with me bought the other for me as a belated birthday present (she is awesome like that).

So now I have some new chairs after two trips in the Prius to get them home.  I know the patten is a little wild, but I think that is what I love about them.

As you can see they are Italian Greyhound approved, I couldn't keep the pups off them long enough to take photos.

The rest of the weekend I spent purging old stock and doing a deep clean so the house sparkled by the time Mr. Honey got home.  To soften the blow.....so to speak.  Here is how things went down:

Me:  "Ummm So I bought a chair"
Honey: "A chair...."
Me: "Yeah a chair and an ottoman, it is really awesome and I love it, I would have called but I dropped my stupid phone and it is a goner....don't be mad."
Honey: "A chair and an ottoman...."
Me: "Yes, it was a set and there was another chair which matched and M. bought it for me as a birthday present..."
Honey: "Wait....let me get this straight...first it is a chair, then a chair and an ottoman, now it is two chairs and an ottoman...."
Me: "Er....Yes"

At this point he is really quiet, then starts cracking up laughing and says,  Well let me see this "chair"
Yay! argument averted!  I think it worked in my favor that he had been gone all weekend and missed me.(Only the third time we have been apart in three years)

So anyways, what do you think?

I HEART Andrew Bird

Hi all, it has been a while!  I have been a mad working fool, but I do have a little bit of time to share my favorite music artist, Andrew Bird. If you haven't hear of him then take a listen.

Tenuousness - This is my current favorite song (it always changes), but this video really lets you see how he uses the looping pedal to layer sounds. Watch his feet in the beginning!

Oh no... Another great song.

The song Spare Ohs being performed in the streets of Paris, so awesome. (If you are not digging the violin solo skip to 1:02). I wish I was walking down the street and stumbled across him singing. Oh wait I have...but that was a dream. :)

Lull, my last favorite song, I can listen to it on repeat all day. (I was at this show!!)

Hope you enjoy it!

Becca

PS. I wish I could whistle :(
